A Misty Visit to Allan Bank
We arrived at Allan Bank to find the house and surrounding hills partly hidden by mist. It was also absolutely freezing (I was nithered), so we headed inside to warm up and have a look around.
Allan Bank was once home to poet William Wordsworth, and the house has beautiful views over Grasmere. We couldn't see much of the landscape when we first arrived, but the mist gave everything an atmospheric feel.
While we were inside, we sat looking out of one of the windows and were lucky enough to spot a couple of red squirrels in the grounds.
When we eventually headed back outside, the sun had started to break through the mist. The gardens had an almost autumnal feel despite it being July, and gradually the views over Grasmere appeared through the clouds.
