Buttermere | Lake District

Buttermere Moonrise

I'd heard that Buttermere was lovely in autumn, so we decided to head there for a little break.

We arrived slightly too early for the autumn colours to be at their best, but instead, we had lovely sunny weather. The blue skies created beautiful reflections in the lake, with the surrounding fells mirrored in the still water.

The weather had been very different when we'd visited Scale Force the previous day. The tops of the fells had been hidden by the clouds, which made the landscape feel completely different. You can see those photographs in this post.

We spent the afternoon walking around the lake, stopping along the way to take photographs and enjoy the scenery. By the time we finished, we decided to stay and wait for the sunset.

As evening came, the place became incredibly quiet, and there was nobody else around when the moon appeared from behind one of the fells. It was such a lovely moment, and the photographs I took that evening are some of my favouritesButtermere has become one of my favourite places in the Lake District, and I'd love to return in autumn when the colours are at their best.
