Stamford Bridge
A couple of weeks ago, we visited Stamford Bridge (no, not that one). This Stamford Bridge is a picturesque village on the River Derwent near York.
We spent the afternoon exploring the village and countryside, including an old railway line where we stopped to take some photographs. I sat on the edge of the old platform for a few photos before continuing across a tall bridge with lovely views along the river.
The autumn colours were beautiful, with the trees reflected in the water, and I also spotted a red kite circling overhead.
After wandering back towards the village, we stopped for dinner in a little café overlooking the water before going to see the actual Stamford Bridge. The village was the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, one of the events that marked the end of the Viking era in Britain.
