Hill
Top is a 17th-century house in Near Sawrey, a small village near
Hawkshead. It was once home to children’s author Beatrix Potter who bought the
property in 1906 following the success of her book Peter Rabbit and left it to
the National Trust. The building is now grade two listed.
Surrounded
by beautiful countryside and colourful gardens, it’s where she would sit and
write some of her most famous tales. Many of Beatrix’s original
furnishings and trinkets still dotted around the house, including copies of her
illustrations that she had sent to her publisher when working on Peter Rabbit.
