Ribblehead Viaduct from a Different Perspective
A few years ago, I travelled to Carlisle on the Settle to Carlisle Railway, passing directly over the famous viaduct. From the train, the view of the viaduct is limited, so, when I found myself back in the Yorkshire Dales recently, I decided it was time to see it from a different viewpoint.
Standing beneath the arches gives you a completely different appreciation of the scale of the viaduct. Built in the nineteenth century, it stretches across the valley. While I was there, I was lucky enough to see a couple of trains crossing the viaduct. Watching them slowly make their way across the arches provided the perfect opportunity to photograph the railway in use.
