A few weeks ago I visited Yorkshire Arboretum
near Castle Howard, where a new red squirrel enclosure has opened. The
enclosure is fenced off from the rest of the grounds, to make sure that the
grey squirrels can’t get in and the red ones out. The were really friendly,
running along the railings where food had been left out for them.
The arboretum’s 120 acres are home to more
than 7000 trees and a pond where I saw a couple of swans.
Only a 10-minute drive away in nearby Terrington is Yorkshire Lavender. I first visited Yorkshire Lavender a few years ago, and I have a post about that here. Between the heavy showers, I enjoyed walking through the lavender maze which was home to lots of bees, and you could hear them buzzing as you walked around.
