Nestled on Scotland’s east coast, North Berwick is a seaside town with sandy beaches and quaint shops, and also gannets. A highlight of the visit was walking along the shore with views of Bass Rock, its surface covered with thousands of them.
We started our trip by wandering around the harbour, where I saw some cormorants. From there, we headed to the beach, which is a great spot to take in the views of the famous Bass Rock, a dramatic, white-covered island just off the coast, home to thousands of gannets. Puffins can also be found here, on one of the other rocks here.
You can also walk up to North Berwick Law, a hill that offers panoramic views of the town, coastline, and beyond. I'm told it's a bit of a steep climb, but the view from the top is worth it. You can see all the way to the Firth of Forth and even Edinburgh in the distance on clear days.
