Afternoon Tea at Betty's, York

It was my birthday last weekend, and we headed to York for afternoon tea at Betty’s.  We both had the Lady Betty Afternoon tea but I had the vegetarian version, which was lovely.  We arrived in York to a flurry of snow and made our way upstairs to where we were shown to our table.  There was a lovely atmosphere; we were sat by the window and I could see the snow falling over the Christmas markets, and the pianist was playing Christmas songs.

To start we had pea, cucumber and tomato cocktail followed by smoked salmon and cream cheese roulade and a miniature pork pie (goats cheese tart for the vegetarian option).  The delicious sandwiches included chicken, egg mayonnaise, cream cheese + cucumber and ham and tomato.  My favourite part of afternoon tea is always the desserts; the scones were rose and lemon served with cream and jam, and my favourite was the chocolate and passion fruit dessert.

After a lovely afternoon – and plenty of tea – we headed out into the snow to wander round the markets and visit the Christmas shop, which I also recommend paying a visit to!

Dalby Forest

I managed to capture some beautiful photographs of the sunset when we visited Dalby Forest the other week.  Dalby Forest is a forest near to Pickering in North Yorkshire; there are a number of different walking trails that you can follow, ranging from 0.5 miles to over 4 miles, with easy signposts to follow along the way.

We took a path that was about 3 miles long, a circular route which led us through the crunching autumn leaves of the woods and back along by the river in time for the sunset.

Saltburn

It was stormy at the seaside. Everywhere was grey except for the splashes of colour from the autumn leaves in the Valley Gardens.  The waves were crashing fiercely against the pier which we had planned on walking along until we saw the weather!
