Carlisle Cathedral and Castle

Arriving at Carlisle train station, we had an hour to look round the town before our train was due to leave.

Places to visit:

Carlisle Cathedral

The Cathedral was founded as an Augustinian Priory and became a cathedral in 1133. It is the second smallest of England’s ancient cathedrals.

Carlisle Castle

The castle is located near the ruins of Hadrian’s Wall and, at over 900 years old, has been the centre of many wars and invasions. Because of the time restrictions, we didn’t go inside the castle, but I’d love to come back and visit and also revisit Hadrian’s Wall.
