Supermoon at Saltburn

Supermoon at Saltburn

At the end of August, I headed to Saltburn hoping to photograph a blue supermoon rising above the coast. I'd also hoped for a colourful sunset, and for a while it looked as though I might get neither.

As the evening progressed, clouds gathered across the sky, and the moon looked increasingly unlikely to make an appearance. I'd almost decided to give up and head home when a large moon appeared behind the cliffs, rising into the sky.

A blue moon doesn't actually appear blue, unfortunately. The name simply refers to the second full moon occurring within the same month. On this occasion, it was also a supermoon, meaning the full moon appeared larger and brighter than usual because it was closer to Earth.

I've never been able to photograph the moon very well. But on this evening, with the moon rising above the cliffsI was pleased with what I managed to capture.
